Private PRP Hip Injections

Regenerative treatment for hip pain and arthritis using the body’s natural healing power.

PRP Hip Injections for Joint Pain and Arthritis Relief

At The West London Knee and Hip Clinic, we offer private Ultrasound guided PRP hip injections as a regenerative, non-surgical treatment for patients suffering from hip pain, early-stage arthritis, and soft tissue injuries such as labral tears. Performed by Dr Arjuna Imbuldeniya and his team, this treatment uses your own blood proteins to promote natural healing and reduce inflammation inside the joint.

Appointments are available at our London clinics in Mayfair and Chiswick, with minimal waiting and expert consultant-led care throughout.

What Are PRP Injections?

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy is also known as Autologous Conditioned Plasma (ACP) therapy. It harnesses the healing components found in your own blood — specifically platelets, which are rich in growth factors that repair damaged tissue.

PRP is used widely across medicine and sports injury care to help:
Reduce pain

Improve joint function
Slow or repair cartilage damage
Restore mobility after injury or arthritis

For patients with early osteoarthritis, PRP hip injections can offer a natural, minimally invasive treatment option with little to no downtime.

PRP Treatment for Hip Pain and Tendon Injuries

Hip pain can develop from multiple causes — including arthritis, tendinopathy, or overuse injuries. PRP therapy is particularly effective in the hip joint and surrounding soft tissues because it targets inflammation and stimulates repair.

This treatment may be suitable if you:

Have persistent hip pain not relieved by physiotherapy or medication
Are looking to delay or avoid surgery
Suffer from early-stage arthritis or cartilage wear
Have tendon inflammation in or around the hip joint

The PRP Injections Procedure: What to Expect

The Procedure

A 15 ml blood sample is taken from your arm — just like a standard blood test
The sample is placed in a centrifuge, which spins it to separate and concentrate the platelet-rich plasma
The extracted PRP is injected into your hip joint or surrounding tendons using ultrasound or Xray image guidance
The treatment is usually performed as a series of three injections, spaced two weeks apart

The entire process takes place in-clinic and usually takes 30–60 minutes

You should however arrive 1 hour before your appointment to allow time for your blood to be taken, be very hydrated eg have drunk 1-2 Litres of water that day and should also keep away from any NSAID (Non steroidal anti-inflammatory) medication for 2 weeks before and after your PRP hip injection as these medications can reduce the number of platelets harvested.

Why the Treatment Is Low Risk

Because PRP uses your own blood, there’s very little risk of allergic reaction or side effects. It is considered extremely safe and well tolerated, with most patients returning to normal activity within 24–48 hours.

How PRP Injections Work to Reduce Pain

The body’s healing response is triggered by platelets, which contain growth factors that:

Initiate repair of damaged tissues
Regulate inflammation
Stimulate the production of new collagen and cartilage cells
Enhance circulation in the affected area.

By concentrating these platelets and injecting them directly into the painful hip, PRP therapy supports the body’s natural healing in a focused and powerful way — especially valuable for patients with degenerative joint conditions

Results and Recovery

Many patients experience noticeable pain reduction and improved movement within a few weeks of starting treatment. Some of the benefits of PRP injections for the hip include:

Improved joint function and flexibility
Less stiffness and inflammation
Reduced reliance on painkillers
Avoidance or delay of surgical procedures

While individual results vary, the treatment is backed by promising clinical research and is commonly used by orthopaedic specialists worldwide.
