Arjuna Imbuldeniya (known as Arj to friends and colleagues) is a fully qualified and trained surgeon who specialises exclusively in treating patients suffering from complex hip and knee problems using cutting edge technology and up to date, proven and precise techniques.

Early life and background
Mr Imbuldeniya proudly works as an NHS Consultant Surgeon in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, West Middlesex University hospital, London, where is mother worked as a midwife and where he was also born.
His parents moved to the UK from Sri-Lanka in the late 1960’s. He grew up in Ealing and then later Acton in West London and was fortunate to be awarded a full assisted place at Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith.
Undergraduate and post graduate training
Mr Imbuldeniya graduated as a medical doctor in 2001 from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals Medical School, University of London.
He spent a number of years training as a junior doctor at The Royal London Hospital. His senior surgical training was based in North West London including appointments at Charing Cross Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital Paddington and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Specialist fellowship experience
Prior to taking up his consultant post, Mr Imbuldeniya undertook international specialist fellowship training at the renowned Mater Hospital in Sydney, Australia. This is the largest joint replacement centre in the Southern Hemisphere where he learned both established and new cutting edge surgical techniques in hip and knee surgery from some of Australia’s most respected and experienced surgeons.
More recently he was awarded the 2018 ESSKA Sports Knee Fellowship traveling to Barcelona to learn from the team that manage knee injuries in elite athletes including those from Barcelona FC. He learned about newer therapies including stem cell treatments, and other knee preservation surgery including meniscal replacement and repair.
Specialist interests in computer and robotic guided surgery and health policy
Mr Imbuldeniya is trained in and believes in the use of technology assisted surgery such as computer and robotic guided joint replacement surgery, and has completed a Masters level degree in Health Policy from Imperial College, London, publishing on innovation in healthcare such as new virtual fracture clinics.
He has expertise in keyhole surgery of the knee including ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction, surgery to help with catching and locking in the knee, computer and robotic assisted partial knee replacement, computer and robotic assisted total knee replacement, hip replacement particularly in the younger adult and complex revision/redo hip replacement.
Professional memberships and affiliations
Mr Imbuldeniya is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association, The British Hip Society, The European Society of Sports Knee Surgery and The Computer Assisted Orthopedic Society UK. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a qualified Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor for medical professionals.
He is actively involved in training the next generation of doctors and surgeons in Central and West Lodon and is an examiner for final year medical students from Imperial College.
Mr Imbuldeniya is author to a number of recent research and clinic audit papers published in peer reviewed medical journals relating to hip, knee and orthopaedic trauma surgery. He has also presented this work with at national and international medical conferences. Copies of his published research are available on this site.
He is actively involved as a Chief investigator in clinical trials with Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College, London.
Interests outside of work
Hailing from West London he is a lifelong supporter of Brentford FC, and cherishes all his spare time enjoying life with his young children.

Mr Imbuldeniya is happy to see patients either at his NHS practice at the West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth (part of the Chelsea. and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust) or privately at The BMI Syon clinic, Brentford, The HCA Chiswick Outpatient Centre or
The New Victoria Hospital in Kingston.
Privately, he is recognised by all major health insurers and patients are advised to seek approval from their Health Insurer before you visit the clinic.
All patients whether NHS or privately funded are recommended to attend with an accompanying GP referral letter.
